Piksel24 Festival: 21 - 24 November 2024

Dear friends,

The Piksel24 festival is just around the corner, and we’re thrilled to give you an early look at some of the artists and programs happening from November 21st to 24th.

The festival will offer a packed program with workshops, artist presentations, three nights of audiovisual performances, an extensive electronic art exhibition across multiple venues, and a full day dedicated to live coding, featuring remote artists from Canada, USA, Chile, and Denmark.

We’re excited to present special programs exploring global media chaos, geopolitical tensions, open knowledge, environmental awareness, new developments in remote performance using IoT, AI warfare, surveillance, and much more!

Labs from Europe will gather in Bergen to play a new edition of the MEDIA()MESS Collective. Artist-researchers from APO33 (France), MADLAB (Cyprus), Piksel (Norway), and STWST (Linz) specialized in new media, art, hacking, and DIY culture. The collective create an intermedia artwork that explores the disconnections in our mediated realities through audio-visual performances, media activism, and collaborative research.

The Ohanda.One project will transport us to a utopian zero-emission ocean vessel as a mobile collaborative workspace and research platform. Connecting artists, scientists, and environmental organizations, Ohanda.One is fostering innovation in sustainable ocean research and seafaring, while promoting open knowledge and environmental awareness.

From the hand of Blaz Pavlika and Flor de Fuego, we keep creating new forms of interaction between art and culture through the project IDLE (Inclusive Digital Lab for Experimental Art). At Piksel they will present new tools for remote performers acting at the IoT devices within the physical venue at Piksel Studio 207.

Collaborations with the Internationales Digitalkunst Festival in Stuttgart, Germany through the European Festivals Fund for Emerging Artists (EFFEA). As part of the “Listening to Metacrisis” project, sound artists will come to Bergen showing us the results of the  an EFFEA Discovery Residency.

In summary, Piksel Festival 2024 will offer an engaging and thought-provoking experience, blending art, technology, science, and critical discourse. With the involvement of artists, technologists, and activists from around the world, the festival is set to challenge conventional thinking and inspire new ideas on the digital world and our environmental responsibilities.

Piksel is an international festival for electronic art and technological freedom. Part workshop, part festival, it is organised in Bergen, Norway, and involves participants from more than a dozen countries exchanging ideas, coding, presenting art and software projects, doing workshops, performances and discussions on the aesthetics and politics of art and free technologies.
