INVITATION TO THE OPENING OF THE FUTURE OF THE LAB

From November 30th until December 2nd, BALTAN Laboratories is hosting an international expert meeting titled The Future of the Lab at Strijp-S in Eindhoven. These three days bring together participants from media art labs and lab programmes worldwide – from Australia to Chile, to the Netherlands and Switzerland – to challenge and debate future strategies and forms of the laboratory (or media lab) and the importance of research and production spaces for artists and creative professionals working with technology.

The Future of the Lab opens up to the public on the night of Monday, November 30th, with a keynote lecture by Horst Hörtner, director of the renowned Ars Electronica Futurelab in Austria. The evening will also feature an artistic programme presenting some of the projects developed at BALTAN over the last year, including work by Maurer United Architects, Geert Mul, Telcosystems and Michelle Teran.

BALTAN Laboratories initiates, supports and disseminates innovative research and development activities in the field of art, technology and culture. The Future of the Lab is part of BALTAN’s Blueprint programme, devoted to exploring the forms, roles and models of the art and technology lab of the future. More information on the keynote speaker, participants and results from The Future of the Lab can be found on BALTAN’s website ( http://www.baltanlaboratories.org/?cat=53).

The Future of the Lab is made possible thanks to the support of the Mondriaan Foundation (http://www.mondriaanfoundation.nl ). In collaboration with Virtueel Platform ( http://www.virtueelplatform.nl ) and BAM, the Flemish institute for visual, audiovisual and media art ( http://www.bamart.be ).
